Frequently Asked Questions

We will carry out a full assessment of your circumstances and need. When agreed between us that joining the Housing Register is a good option for you, your officer will assess your priority, register your details, and provide you with information on how to bid for properties.
The houses we advertise are mainly from housing associations so, by law, we must check that you are eligible to apply for housing. We also must make sure we allocate tenancies fairly. By registering, it provides us with the information we need to assess your housing situation in line with our Allocation Policy and make sure that those who have the greatest need are given priority for housing.
Once we have all relevant information, we can assess your application. Therefore, it is important you provide all requested information as soon as possible.
You will be unable to start bidding on properties until your application has been assessed and your priority (band) agreed. Once your application has been made live, you will then be able to log in to your application and start bidding for properties.
Please contact your dedicated Housing Officer using the contact details they will have provided you. If you have not yet been allocated an officer, please contact the duty team on 01362 656870.
This will vary depending upon the type and size of property you need and where you would like to live.
If you disagree with the band that your application has been placed in, you can ask for a review of the decision by a senior officer.

You can request a review of the decision within 21 days of the decision date. The review will be carried out within 28 days of the appeal being received.

You will need to request a review in writing by email to Housing.Advice@breckland.gov.uk using the subject heading 'BANDING REVIEW' or via letter to:

Housing, Breckland Council, Elizabeth House, Walpole Loke, Dereham, NR19 1EE
If you do not have access to the internet and have no family/friends who can bid on your behalf we can set up an auto bid within the system, so bids are placed on properties that you are eligible/suitable for.
You will be provided log in details once your application has been assessed and made live to access the customer portal. This is where you will be able to check on the status of your application and see basic information relating to your account.
